Part Time Street Sweeper/Vegetation Control

Class Title: Part Time Department: StreetGrade: PTGENERAL PURPOSEPrimary job duties will be the operation of the street sweeper and vegetation control on rights-of-way. On an as-needed basis, assist street crew in the operation, maintenance, and repair of street signs, traffic signs, city streets, alleys, rights-of-way, drainage ditches, sidewalks, parking lots, and other city-owned property, with as few interruptions to the customers as possible. Ensures that customer service and reliability are the best we can provide in all types of weather conditions.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWorks under the supervision of Street Department Crew LeaderSUPERVISION EXERCISEDNoneESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOperation and maintenance of the street sweeperPerform vegetation control along the right of way.Assist in performing work in constructing, maintaining, and repairing City streets, alleys & signs.Assist in digging holes and setting poles for signs.Assist in removing & installing signs on poles.Assist in installing & repairing curbing, sidewalks & drainage.Assist in monitoring the visibility of traffic signs & keep trees & other growth trimmed accordingly.Assist in monitoring & addressing the buildup of grass, weeds, or dirt in cracks or gutters of streets.Assist in keeping streets clean of dirt & grass.Assist in trimming trees and branches.Assist with patching potholes & paving streets.Assist in constructing & paving new streets, alleys & parking areas.Perform any other related duties.Keeps inventory, time, and material records as assigned.All other assignments as directed by the supervisor or City Manager.PERIPHERAL DUTIESEnsure equipment is in proper working order.Responds to customer complaints.DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSGraduation from high school or GED equivalentDesire and ability to work around and learn to work with specialty equipment.Must possess acceptable verbal and written communication skills and interact well in a team environment.Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities(A) Ability to understand methods, materials, and tools used in the street maintenance work. Ability to learn the trade's occupational hazards and safety precautions.(B) Ability to understand the operation of the listed tools and equipment; learn skills in the application of first aid methods, including artificial respiration(C) Ability to follow proper methods, procedures, and safety precautions of street work. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions. Ability to work under varying weather conditions. Ability to interact well in a team environment.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSA valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record are required.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USEDMotorized vehicles and equipment, including pickup, street sweeper, forklift, chain saw, and various hand tools.PHYSICAL DEMANDSAn employee must meet the physical demands described here to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
